Happy birthdays all the way around at the Houston Zoo

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- It's a baby boom of endangered turtles at the Houston Zoo.

According to zoo officials, eight Madagascar big-headed turtle babies wer found in their parents home at the Zoo's Wortham World of Primates.

They also discovered 20 eggs that had since been laid. The babies and eggs are currently being cared for by the zoo.

The Madagascar big-headed turtles, which were once prevalent throughout western Madagascar, are now one of the most endangered turtles in the world.

Nearly a decade ago, two male and five juvenile female big headed turtles were donated to the Houston Zoo.
