It was a deadly night around Houston on the roads. Here's what happened that shut down freeways.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Deadly crashes overnight led to a difficult situation on the roads for the start of the work week.

One incident happened on I-10 East westbound at the Eastex Freeway, where an 18-wheeler flipped onto the exit ramp and burst into flames. The exit ramp was closed for hours, but reopened late Monday morning after the wreckage was cleared.

The second crash happened on the North Freeway at Spring Cypress Road/FM 2920.

According to the Harris County Sheriff's Office, around 2:20 a.m., a street sweeping crew stopped on the shoulder after running over debris. That's when the driver of an SUV, also in the shoulder lane, ran into the back of the sweeper truck.

Both the SUV and the sweeper truck erupted into flames.

The driver in the sweeper truck is expected to survive. The SUV driver was killed.

The crash is affecting all outbound lanes at Spring Cypress.
