Man hopes for police accountability in shootings
During the Texans' game attendees rallied in support of efforts to curb police aggression by signing petitions for police body cameras

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A Houston man believes more diverse grand juries could lead to what he calls better police accountability when it comes to shootings.

The Texans game vs. the Indianapolis Colts turned into more than a sporting event for a group of football fans in Southwest Houston. Steve Brown who calls himself a concerned resident hosted the watch party to rally people into signing petitions calling for police body cameras and filling out grand jury applications.

"I know that the protests are meaningful and they're needed but there are folks who don't go to protests who still have voices who still have concerns and I thought it would make sense to bring the issues to them," said Brown.

During commercial breaks and the halftime show, Brown opened up dialogue among the football fans to discuss how to improve police accountability.

More than 20 people signed the petition including a father of a 7-year-old who is asking lots of questions after seeing police in riot gear during the recent protests in Ferguson, Missouri.

"When she watch the news with me and she asked me daddy, I thought police were there to protect us? How do you explain to a child, " said DJ Kriss Kool.

The event is the first of it's kinds and organizers say they are looking at other creative ways to keep the conversation going and create awareness in police brutality issues.
