HOUSTON (KTRK) -- It's the season of giving and a group of Houstonians is doing just that -- hitting the streets and helping the homeless.

Houston Heroes spent their Saturday afternoon giving out 40 backpacks full of goodies to the homeless.

"Toilet paper, towels, we've got beanies, blankets, new pair of socks," Kaci Zwahr said.

Gary Glass says he's been living on the streets for four years. He calls the group a Christmas blessing.

"I look at it being the work of God," Glass said. "I may be wrong saying that but I believe it's the work of God, those people."

Those reasons are what prompted Zwahr to start Houston's Heroes. Every month the group gives out hygiene sets, water in the summer and blankets in the winter.

Zwahr says the backpacks gives a lot to those in need.

"It makes us all in turn feel really good, because you know this time of the year not everybody has family or friends with them," she added.
