8-year-old with knife tried to defend brother in home invasion

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A little boy seeing his brother being attacked in a home invasion in southeast Houston tried to defend him with a knife, court papers show.

However, the move ended up backfiring on the frightened 8-year-old.

Court papers claim the boys' ordeal started on November 1 when 17-year-old Randy Johnson and two other men, Kenneth McCoy and Dequinton Dorsey, allegedly broke down the door of an apartment in the 10000 block of Windmill Lakes Boulevard with one intention: to steal a Play Station 4.

While gaming on that system in a bedroom, the little boy claims in court papers that he and his 7-year-old brother heard a crashing noise and saw men attack their eldest brother, choking him.

The 8-year-old, seeing his sibling in distress, says he ran to the kitchen and grabbed a knife.

Meanwhile, court documents allege Dorsey began disconnecting the Play Station gaming console.

Court papers indicate when the boy came back from the kitchen, McCoy plucked the knife from his hands, then Johnson took it from him, and pointed it at the boys, ordering them to sit on a couch and not move.

Then, the boy claims in court papers, the men escaped their home with their Play Station system.

Court papers indicate the young boys positively identified the suspects as those that allegedly invaded their home and stole their property.

Johnson, McCoy and Dorsey are all charged with burglary. Johnson and McCoy are behind bars on $30,000 bond.
