HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A man trying to run away from police ended up jumping off a bridge. Now he's in the hospital facing charges.

A Houston police officer spotted a car driving more than 100 mph. The officer ran the tags and the vehicle came back as being stolen out of Corpus Christi.

Officers then chased the suspect who finally bailed out along the Eastex Freeway around Community Drive. That's when officers say the man jumped off a bridge and fell about 30 feet.

Firefighters then rescued the chase suspect by lowering a basket down to him. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Police say he now faces felony evading charges.
