Rain impacts graduations
The heavy rain didn't keep students and parents from attending HS graduations held at NRG

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Rain delayed, but did not postpone high school graduation ceremonies at NRG Park. Getting there, however, was not so easy.

It happens once in a lifetime, so hundreds of students and family members braved high water and rain to see their senior get that diploma.

"You want to remember your high school graduation and not be able to get here," said Bellaire senior Rebecca Shultz.

Schultz and fellow graduate Sydney Scheer made the decision to attend their graduation ceremonies at NRG Stadium at the last minute.

"One of my friends decided not to come at all so they are still at home, but we were hanging out at our friend's house debating whether we should go or not," Scheer said.

While the last four years have likely been a challenge for parents, none of them expected the final night of high school to pose as many issues as this night. Just getting to the NRG Park was an effort but well worth it.

"Our baby is here we have to. We have to," said Bellaire HS student parent Norma Veal.

Most took the rain in stride, but one senior wasn't pleased with how her night went before she took her final walk as a high school student.

"I drive a Mini Cooper and my car got stuck. I had to park to get here," said Bellaire HS Senior Marlena Benites.

We know some students and parents decided not to come tonight because they were afraid they would not be able to get home.
