HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Face lifts have been around for years, but now the growing trend among the anti-aging crowd is a hand lift.
Older brides and wedding party moms are among the many people taking part in the trend because they know photos of their rings and hands will be around forever.
At an age we won't disclose, Mary Beth Strayer is a newlywed. She has a beautiful ring, but she says she felt her hands looked very aged and wrinkled.
Now, her daughter is getting married and she knows she will be greeting guests and taking pictures.
"I want to feel young and youthful-looking and a beautiful mother of the bride," Strayer said.
Dr. Sherry Ingraham with Advanced Dermatology says patients often ask how to make their hands look younger. Now, her answer is a hand lift.
"A hand lift is when we inject a substance such a Radiesse, which is the only FDA approved filler for the hands under the tissue. What this does is act like that collagen that's been lost over time," Ingraham said.
Given the FDA approval, Strayer decided to try it.
"I'm thrilled with the results. I think they look fantastic. And knowing I'm going to be in so many photos, it's going to be great," she said of the results.
In the very next room, Melissa Shannon was seeking the same results, but for a different reason.
"I've had little kids make comments about my veins that you can see. Now when I notice people who are about the same age, I catch myself looking at their hands and I think, ugh, my hands do look bad. They do age you," Shannon said.
After going through with the procedure, Shannon was thrilled with the results.
"I love it. You can see the change, complete change. So when I look down at my hands I don't see all the skeletal bones and veins. I love it," Shannon said.
"The great thing about this procedure, instant gratification. You can literally look at one hand while it's being treated and the other before it's treated and see a difference," Ingraham said.
Ingraham says the results can last a year, and the Radiesse will stimulate collagen production over time.
The cost of the treatment depends on the patient, but it can start around $950.
