HOUSTON (KTRK) -- You probably thought you'd leave acne and breakouts behind in your teenage years, yet if you're like the majority of Americans, you may be finding you're still dealing with acne as an adult. The experts have some effective solutions to try at home.
Tip 1: Eat fewer refined carbs. No, junk food doesn't immediately make you break out. But too much refined and processed food can disrupt your hormone balance.
Tip 2: Try less dairy, especially fat free milk, which is higher in sugar than milk with fat.
Tip 3: Try using Tea Tree oil. It has a long history of fighting acne by killing bacteria and reducing inflammation.
Tip 4: Easier said than done, but try to reduce your stress. It doesn't create skin conditions, but it can make existing issues worse.
If those home fixes don't work for you, it may be time to talk to a dermatologist about treatments like blue-light therapy or prescription remedies.. because life it too short to be breaking out!
