HARRIS COUNTY, TX (KTRK) -- We're learning more about a man found dead in a bayou Wednesday morning in Katy. The victim, 31-year-old Omar Borrego Casanova, is from Cuba. Eyewitness News tracked down his only relative in Houston and she's speaking out for the first time.

"I can't believe it he was like a brother to me," said Yuny Casanova.

Yuny Casanova has been the bearer of bad news for her entire family in Cuba.

In an interview in Spanish, she said "it's not fair" what happened to her beloved cousin. Eyewitness News confirmed the victim is her cousin, Omar Borrego Casanova.

"At this point it appears to be some blunt force trauma to the body," said a detective at the scene that day.

Detectives said Omar Casanova didn't have pants and said there was blood near the northwest Harris County neighborhood and on the bayou.

"This causes me so much pain," said Adameris Vera.

Vera is the victim's girlfriend. She lives in the Dominican Republic with their 2-year-old daughter.

"This is like a nightmare to me. I wish I could wake up and it would all be a lie," she said via FaceTime.

Vera said he came to America with big plans for his family. They were hoping to get married soon and Omar was waiting to get his passport. He was most excited to see his daughter who he never got to meet.

During the conversation, her 2-year-old daughter, Naomi, tried to console her. At this point the family doesn't know who killed Omar and why.

"You need to turn yourself in or the police will get you," said the victim's cousin.

No arrests have been made in the case. If you would like to help the family you can do so via their GoFundMe account.
