HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- An eighth-grade student was caught with an unloaded gun Thursday at Marshall Middle School, Houston ISD confirmed.
In a letter sent to parents, school officials said the gun was found by a staff member.
"During the course of our investigation, we discovered several other students had been in possession of the gun, and another student had bullets," the letter added.
HISD police is investigating to determine how the student obtained the gun.
