Nine-foot-long gator killed in Clear Lake neighborhood

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Game wardens killed a huge alligator in a Clear Lake neighborhood Friday morning.

The nine-foot-long gator was discovered next to a home on Garden Creek Way in the Northfork subdivision. The home is near a water retention pond that feeds into Horsepen Bayou.

"Our communication center has been getting calls for the last couple of days about Clear Lake City Boulevard," Texas Parks and Wildlife Officer Timothy Holland.

He even casually strolling into Deborah Bailey's yard.

"He made his way here. He sat here for a while," she said.

Parks and Wildlife officers came out to the scene and captured the gator.

"It was still moving when it was in the back of the truck," witness John Jacoby said.

Eventually, they shot the 200-pound animal three times, killing it, for fear it would attack or return

"It's that time of year. You're going to be seeing alligators everywhere -- Baytown, La Porte, Clear Lake, Huffman. Even in the chemical plant cooling ponds, you name it. They're everywhere now," Holland said.

No one was injured.
