Child with disabilities raises money to help other kids attend camp

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A young Houstonian with a health battle of his own is raising money for a great cause -- he's helping other kids with disabilities.

Nine-year-old Garrett Holcombe was diagnosed with spastic cerebral palsy at a young age. But that hasn't stopped him from enjoying life to the fullest.

Last summer was his fist time going away to camp. He had such a blast that he's now fundraising to help others with disabilities with a special walk. It's so kids can go to the same camp he went to.

"Not everybody will get to go to camp, so you just try to make the best out of it, to make the most amount of people go to camp. Bye that we're doing this walk," Holcombe said.

"And were up to $7,000 this year already. And Garrett really enjoys it because it sends kids to camps, which he was able to attend last year for the first time, camp smiles at camp for all," his father, Jason Holcombe, said.

The Walk With Me event takes place this Saturday at the Houston Zoo. It's a 5K walk that kicks off at 8am.
