When Melissa and Jesse Meek found out they were expecting their first child, they wanted to announce the news to their friends in a fresh way.

The couple turned to the 1990s television show "The Fresh Prince of Belair" for inspiration. Donning a baseball cap and sunglasses to look more like Will Smith's character from the show, they rapped to the theme song, changing the lyrics to be about their happy news.

They thought it would be a fun way to share the news with loved ones, but the announcement has reached much farther than that. The video received more than 3 million views on YouTube in 10 days.

The parents-to-be told ABC affiliate KATU they think people are sharing it because it was honest.

"I think a lot of people like that it was candid," Jesse said.

It took about five takes to get it right, Melissa told KATU.

"The main problem was Jesse coming in at the right time," she said. "He just kept missing that beat, and I was like, 'Come on, get it together!'"

The couple also uploaded a video of their dog helping to break the news to Melissa's parents and Jesse.
