FORT WORTH, TX -- An 11-year-old boy has been found guilty in the beating death of a dog in Fort Worth.
The child pleaded guilty in juvenile court Thursday to charges of delinquent conduct, animal cruelty-torture and using a deadly weapon for beating to death a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel mix named Cookie in May.
The boy has been released until his sentencing hearing, but a judge ordered that he have no unsupervised contact with animals and that his parents must ensure that he is supervised by an adult at all times. The boy and his family have also been ordered to stay away from the dog's owner.
A sentencing hearing will follow the completion of a court-ordered psychological examination and a risk assessment of the boy's potential for violence toward humans and animals.
