HOUSTON (KTRK) -- For decades, ABC-13 has partnered with the Houston Food Bank to help feed those in need with "Share Your Holidays." It's an event that can only be possible with the support of you -- our viewers.

The ABC-13 Share Your Holidays food drive started nearly 34 years ago. Now millions, upon millions of cans of food have been distributed to those less fortunate in the Houston area.

Our own Dave Ward and Don Nelson were some of the first ABC-13 anchors to help with the food drives. And during the Houston Food Bank's Food For Thought luncheon, ABC-13 was honored with the 2014 Barbara Falik Humanitarian Award for our partnership with the Houston Food Bank.

"Coming in December will be our 34th consecutive year of reaching out into the community and asking for community support for the Houston Food Bank. There is a big need in Houston and we are happy to try and fill some of that," ABC-13 General Manager Henry Florsheim said.

Over the years, ABC-13 has been fortunate enough that viewers -- regardless of the weather outside -- have stepped up to help those less fortunate.

"You can do a lot of good work, but if you don't get that message out to the community, you're not going to be able to get much done," said Houston Food Bank President Brian Greene, "and ABC-13 through their partnership with Houston Food Bank, especially with the Share Your Holidays food drive, they really do a great job of mobilizing the community to generate support."

The food bank is always looking for donations and volunteers to get food ready for distribution. Our next Share Your Holidays food drive is December 5.
