Ellen DeGeneres says 'Finding Dory' has 'messages for everyone'
LOS ANGELES, CA -- "Finding Dory" is finding a fortune at the box office as it had the biggest Thursday opening of all-time for an animated movie. In the film, Ellen DeGeneres is back to voice the little blue fish for a big, colorful undersea adventure.
Thirteen years after we journeyed to save Nemo, Disney Pixar brought us back into the ocean for "Finding Dory."
Television host DeGeneres again plays Dory, a forgetful fish who's just trying to find her parents.
"It's turned out to be what it is because it's a beautiful story. It's more emotional this time. It's more complex and layered," the television host said. "There are messages in there for everyone."
DeGeneres had talked about wanting to make a sequel to 2003's "Finding Nemo" for years on her talk show. Now, after getting her wish and recording voiceovers for three years, she said she's happy with the result.
"When you see it all together and you see how beautifully they've done it, yeah, it's a surprise," she said.
The voiceover star said she owes the success of the film to the director and writer, Andrew Stanton, who she said made coordinating the three-year-long project possible.
"It's just got to be so precise when he tells me exactly what's happening. To have that vision when it's just a million - imagine doing a jigsaw puzzle that has, like, a billion pieces and you're in the room doing that one piece - he really can see how it's all going to fit together. So he's the genius," she said.
When asked if she could play Dory all her life, DeGeneres responded by saying, "until I start sounding like Lauren Bacall, yes."
