FDA issues recall on breakfast sandwich sold at Starbucks

The popular sausage, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich sold at 250 Starbucks stores is being recalled, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Progressive Gourmet Inc. is recalling the 6-ounce packages manufactured for Starbucks over concerns the sandwiches could contain Listeria.

The impacted locations include Starbucks stores in Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma. The sandwiches were sold on March 3-4 with "Best Before: 07-AUG-2016" label on the top.

Starbucks removed the sandwiches from the locations.

FDA says no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, according to the FDA. Short-term symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Consumers who have purchased the sandwich are urged to return them to a Starbucks location for a full refund.
