CONROE, TX (KTRK) -- The Montgomery County Fire Marshal is asking residents to check their smoke detectors as we approach colder weather.
There have been three fatal fires in Montgomery County over the past three weeks. And, in each case, investigators say the smoke detectors were either missing or non-functional.
"Within just a few days we're going to be using home heating that we haven't used all year," said Fire Marshal Jimmy Williams. "If you haven't done that maintenance or you haven't checked it out, now is the time to do it."
Williams said November, December, and January are the months where he sees the most fires.
