HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police say the suspect arrested in the fatal assault of a man in southwest Houston earlier this month is now facing capital murder charges.

26 year old Andre DeWayne Buford, Jr., has been arrested for his role in the killing of 53 year old Pascal Tambriz Ixcaqpap. The incident occurred on 6345 Windswept in the early morning of February 11.

Sergeant S. Murdock and Officer B. Evans reported that Ixcaqpap was walking along a trail next to a canal when he was approached by Buford. Buford, armed with a baseball bat, attempted to rob Ixcaqpap. When he did not comply, Buford struck the victim several times with the bat. Witnesses then began to approach the area and Buford fled the scene on foot.

Paramedics transported Ixcaqpap to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead six days later.

Authorities say Buford was arrested later the same day of the beating when he attempted to commit the same offense at a nearby restaurant. He is charged with aggravated robbery in that case.
