HOUSTON (KTRK) -- One of Houston's most well-known principals has been relieved of her duties.
83-year-old Dr. Bertie Simmons came out of retirement to be principal at Furr High School. She's credited with dramatically turning the school around academically.

She most recently won the school a ten million dollar grant and was planning to build a clinic with the money.

HISD announced that Simmons is temporarily relieved of her duties due to a "personnel matter."
The district will not provide details out of respect for the privacy of all involved.
