MALIBU, CA -- Rapper, producer and entrepreneur Dr. Dre was placed in handcuffs and issued a citation outside his Malibu home following a confrontation with a man, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies said they were called to the home of 51-year-old Andre Young, better known by his stage name Dr. Dre, on Pacific Coast Highway at about 11:15 a.m. on Monday.
When deputies arrived, they said a man claimed Young pointed a gun at him.
The man claimed he had stopped in front of Young's home and was ordered to leave by Young, who had a handgun, according to a police release.
The sheriff's department said due to the nature of the call, deputies put Young in handcuffs and placed him in the patrol car while they investigated the incident.
Deputies said Young was cooperative and consented to a search, and also denied all allegations regarding the gun.
The sheriff's department said a gun was not found at the scene.
Young said the man was parked directly in front of his home blocking the driveway, and he asked him to leave, according to the police release.
Young told deputies that the man drove away, but immediately returned and parked near the same location in the center median in front of his home.
Deputies said Young stated that he pulled out his cellphone to begin filming the man, but the man drove away.
Young denied ever threatening the person.
The sheriff's department clarified it did not arrest or take Young into custody, but stated the man, who was not named in the police released, initiated a "private person's arrest" Young for misdemeanor brandishing a firearm.
Young received a written citation, according to the sheriff's department.
Anyone with information relating to the case was urged to call the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Detectives at (818) 878-1808.
