HOUSTON, Texas -- A pair of Houston siblings are baking their way to the top on the hit show 'Disney's Magic Bake-Off'!
Maddie and Michael Ashby beat out thousands of other young bakers around the country to appear on a fairy-tale inspired episode of the show. Contestants had to create a cake portraying a modern-day princess, complete with a 3D wardrobe.
"We had four hours, which seems like a lot, but it's really stressful when you get to the end," said Maddie. "But it was really fun. Our cake was a STEM cake - science, technology, engineering and mathematics. And the reason we chose STEM is because I went to a lot of STEM camps and there weren't a lot of girls at many of the STEM camps. So our princess was Mavis and she was a girl who was interested in STEM."
"I thought the experience was really amazing," said Michael. "It was so much fun. I met a lot of new people. I got to bake with my sister. I wish I could do it again."
Maddie, 10, and Michael, 14, started their own business, Maddie Cakes Bakery when they found they had extra time on their hands during the pandemic. Maddie serves as head chef, while her brother Michael handles business development and marketing.
