HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A car burned beyond recognition in southwest Houston this morning and now an investigation is underway to identify all the people inside.
The Houston Police Department says at least three people were killed when their car crashed and burst into flames.
The Medical Examiner's Office said on Sunday they are awaiting medical and dental records to identify the victims, whose bodies were burned beyond recognition.
The fire happened around 1:30am on the Southwest Freeway Feeder near Hillcroft.
Police say the driver of a Chevy Suburban was speeding on the wet freeway and lost control. The suburban hit a curb, flipped, and slammed into a metal pole and burst into flames.
An HPD officer arrived on scene seconds after the suburban started to burn. But there was nothing he could do to stop it.
The Southwest Feeder near Hillcroft was closed for hours as crews worked to clear the accident.
