LUBBOCK, TX -- A Lubbock man has been charged with animal cruelty after police say he killed his girlfriend's dachshund and seriously injured two others because she tried to break up with him.

The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports 39-year-old Keith Chisum has bonded out of the Lubbock County Detention Center after posting $15,000 bond.

Police say Chisum texted the woman that her dogs were bleeding after she refused to go to the residence she shared with him in September. She says she returned to find her dogs Neo and Gimpy seriously injured. She found her dog, Tiny, dead in the backyard the next day.

It wasn't immediately clear if Chisum has an attorney.
