CLEVELAND -- Police say a 3-year-old child pulled the trigger in the shooting death of a baby boy. An anguished scream can be heard from behind the house in a video recorded shortly after the shooting.
"A 3-year-old can't be held accountable for a tragedy like this," Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams told ABC affiliate WEWS. "There have to be adults that either supplied the weapons, had charge of the weapons or knew the weapons were there and didn't do anything to safeguard them."
Police believe the gun was left unattended when the toddler got a hold of it and shot the baby in the face in a Cleveland home Sunday afternoon.
Police are still looking into how the child got possession of the gun but said that someone will be held responsible.
Neighbors expressed their shock that something like that had happened so close to home.
"Where did he get the gun from?" One neighbor said to WEWS. "That's the main question. Where did the gun come from?"
The toddler and the victim were in a home with other children and at least one adult, WEWS reports.
The victim was identified as 1-year-old Braylon Robinson, according to WEWS. He died on the way to the hospital.
