HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A chase suspect almost got away this morning, but left something behind that led officers right to him.

It all started when the man ran a red light at Dixie Drive and Telephone in southeast Houston. When he refused to stop, officers gave chase.

At some point, officers say he tossed a package out the window. The chase ended near Oak Hill and La Paseo when the driver took off running.

Police used dogs and a helicopter, but couldn't find him.

Then they searched his car, found his ID and went to his house and arrested him.

A passenger who had been in the car was also arrested.
