The Hanson Family cemetery on the 200 block of S. San Jacinto St. in Cleveland seldom sees visitors. With only three dozen graves, most dating back to the late 1800s and early 1900s, the small cemetery goes mostly unnoticed by people who drive by it, even though the adjacent street is named for the once-prominent family.
In recent years, nature has slowly reclaimed the cemetery, with shrubs and trees encroaching on graves and obscuring headstones.
Cleaning up an overgrown cemetery is not a project most people are willing to undertake, but for Vincent Karl Porter of Cleveland, the cemetery is part of his heritage. His maternal great-grandparents, Carl Harvey Burns and Clara Eugenia Burns, are buried there.
