Community unites to raise funds for sick child
A community in Spring is helping fund her fight against cancer while keeping spirits high

SPRING, TX (KTRK) -- From shaved heads, to shaved ice -- a community is committed to helping a young cancer survivor keep fighting.

Four-year-old Kali Wiggins is from Conroe. She was diagnosed with kidney and heart cancer three weeks ago. Now, she is going through intense chemotherapy at Texas Children's Hospital.

"She's fun. She's funny. She's hilarious and she's loving," said family friend Genia Bloom. "Now she is in a bed. Not talking and going through chemo and all these other treatments. It's heartbreaking," said Bloom.

On a ventilator, Kali is waiting for the chemo to shrink her tumor. The plan is to eventually remove her right kidney. In the meantime, friends are fundraising for the family to relieve their financial burden this hospital stay will cost.

"Words can't express the thanks that we have for what everyone has done for our princess because she's got a long journey ahead of her and all we can do is just pray," said Kali's grandmother Elizabeth Dean.

Kali's family says one day she was OK and playing. The next day, she was running a fever.

"She was complaining that her back was hurting so they took her to the hospital," said Bloom. "Roughly in two hours they were rushing her down to Texas Children's Hospital."

Several men stopped to donate at the 'I Don't Know Yet' lounge in Spring, shaving their heads in support of little Kali.

"I have a four and a half year old son and I couldn't imagine what this family is going through," said family friend Keyla Currey.
