BROWNWOOD, TX -- Authorities say one person has died in a West Texas fire in a commercial area where homeless people are known to stay.

Brownwood Fire Marshal Buddy Preston says investigators are trying to determine what caused the fire before dawn Friday.

KTXS-TV reports the fire happened in an area behind a shopping center where the homeless frequently sleep.

Officials didn't immediately identify the victim or provide additional details.

The National Weather Service reports conditions early Friday in Brownwood included light rain and temperatures near freezing.
