Body found in car pulled from Sims Bayou
A body was found inside a car in a southeast Houston bayou Thursday morning. And now authorities are trying to figure out what happened

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Houston police are investigating a gruesome discovery at Sims Bayou.

They pulled a Nissan Altima out of the water in the 4800 block of Scenic Drive. That's in the Sunnyside community.

We're told the HPD helicopter spotted the car Wednesday partially submerged while looking for a car in an unrelated homicide investigation.

"Today our dive team went out and discovered inside the vehicle some skeletal remains," said investigator Richard Martinez. "They ran the license plate and it came back to a missing person report."

Houston police say the remains are that of a man who was reported missing in May. They haven't released his name, but EquuSearch tells us they believe it's very possible that this is a man who went missing while driving along Airport Boulevard on the way to his girlfriend's home in Pearland.

"This is what we've been talking about since last October, is we've got cars in the bayou," says Houston At-Large City Council member Michael Kubosh.

Kubosh has been pushing for a program to get cars out of the area's bayous.

"Some have estimated as many as 200-300. We don't know how many bodies this represents. But we do know that there are definitely bodies that are going to be found in these cars," he said.

Investigators hope to know who this was in the next couple of days.

Police say they don't think this was related to the Memorial Day flood since the man was reported missing two weeks earlier. Sources tell us foul play is a strong possibility.
