Blue Bell: Banana Pudding Ice Cream tests positive for Listeria monocytogenes
Blue Bell Creameries is expanding its recall to include Banana Pudding Ice Cream pints after the company said they tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.
The company said the ice cream came from the same plant in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma that has been pegged as the source of other contaminated ice cream products. Houston-area grocery stores such as HEB, Kroger and Sam's Club have already pulled all Blue Bell products from their shelves.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
"Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria monocytogenes infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women," the company said in a prepared statement.
The products being recalled are distributed to retail outlets, including food service accounts, convenience stores and supermarkets in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wyoming.
