HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Hair professionals say you shouldn't wash your hair everyday, but how can you keep it fresh and looking smooth? The pros show how one blowout can make it through a full work week.
The experts at the Upper Hand Salon say you should try to get a professional blow dry at the beginning of the work week. If the $40 price tag is too much, do it at home.
"When you doing your initial blow dry for the work week, you want to make sure to not use a ton of product so use something you can use on wet hair and also something to set the hair at the end," Upper Hand owner Rachel Gower said.
Gower likes a product called Goldwell's Style Sign Naturally Full. It works on wet and dry hair and costs $20.
After you shampoo and condition, let it dry on its own until it is 80 percent dry. Then it's time to blow dry.
"The most important part of this blow dry is to section the hair properly and give it root direction," Gower said. "The trick with fine or long hair is to make sure you are directing your hair in the opposite way from where you want it to fall that will give it root lift and lots of structure which will help it last longer."
Finish the lengths with a round brush, and you have a perfectly polished blow dry for day one.
For day number two, the look is really easy. You will need dry shampoo to extend your style and freshen your hair.
"We love the KMS makeover spray, it's one of the original products on the market and called makeover spray," Gower said.
Simply spray to maintain the style.
On day three add more dry shampoo to soak up any natural oils, then switch up the style.
"By switching the style we mean switch the part, so if you have a middle part, go to a side part, if you have a right part go to the left," Gower said.
By redirection your hair, you are going to give it a natural boost in volume. Smooth your hair over to one side and spray it down with the original spray you used on day one.
Day four is pony tail day! Add dry shampoo and heat protectant to add texture. Take a curling iron and make waves from the mid-lengths to the ends. Then pull the hair back into a pony tail.
By day five, your hair is probably oily. For the last look, detangle your hair and then use the makeover spray. Loosely twist the bangs and pull back to one side. Bobby pin the hair to secure and hold.
