HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A bicycle accident claimed the life of a veteran firefighter Friday afternoon, leaving two communities shaken by the loss.

The accident happened at about 3:40pm on North Bridgeland Lake Parkway near Bridge Cove in northwest Harris County. Officials with the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office say a man on a bicycle slammed into the back of a long trailer.

He was severely injured and flown by Life Flight to Hermann Hospital where he later died.

Captain Ruy Lozano, a spokesperson for the Houston Fire Department, identified the victim as William Mark Braswell, a 20-year veteran of HFD. He had achieved the rank of captain, and worked at Station 6 on Washington in the Heights. Braswell also volunteered as an assistant chief for the Cy-Fair VFD.

He is survived by a wife and two children.
