HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- School is right around the corner, which means so is the risk of kids getting sick. Immunizations are required for students in public school, so here's where you can take your child to get free shots before school starts.

Houston Health Department

The Houston Health Department will celebrate National Health Center Week with a four-day health fair, which will include free immunizations for children to kick off the week.

Immunizations will be given on Aug. 5, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at any of the health department's four health center locations. Children must be eligible for the Texas Vaccines for Children program.

The Houston Health Department's four-day health fair will be Aug. 6-9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees at the fair can learn about services offered by the health department, including but not limited to: dental, WIC, family planning, nursing home visitation, HIV and STD prevention, tuberculosis control, aging, re-entry and the free Diabetes Awareness and Wellness Network (DAWN) Center.

The Children's Museum

The Children's Museum of Houston is offering free back-to-school vaccinations every Thursday during the month of August.

Children six weeks to 18 years old who need vaccinations have the opportunity to receive them for free this summer.

Texas Children's Mobile Clinic Program will administer back-to-school vaccinations to the first 150 children to arrive every Thursday for Free Family Night from 5 to 7 p.m.

To qualify, parents and guardians will need to bring their child's immunization records.

There is no pre-registration required.

Spring Branch Family Development Center

A back-to-school health fair will take place at the Spring Branch Family Development Center on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 8 a.m. to noon.

There will be free immunizations, free school supplies, and adult health screenings. You must bring shot records or a request from the school nurse.

Galena Park I.S.D. and Harris Health System

The Annual District Immunization Day will take place Saturday, Aug. 17, 9 a.m. to noon, at North Shore Senior High School. Children 2 months to 18 years old can get free shots, and parents should bring shot records.

Montgomery County

Children starting classes this upcoming school year in Montgomery County can get free vaccinations at the Don't Miss the Bus back-to-school event at several Lone Star Family Health Center locations.

The first event will be Aug. 5 from 1 p.m to 5 p.m. at 605 S. Conroe Medical Drive. You can also go any day from Aug. 6 to Aug. 16 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 605 S. Conroe Medical Drive.

There will also be events from Aug. 12 to Aug. 16 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 440 Rayford Rd. in Spring or 9516 W. FM 1097, Ste. 140 in Willis.
