Man gunned down during robbery in south Houston

HOUSTON

Almost all of Rockingham was blocked off for hours as Houston police tried to sort through eyewitness accounts and evidence of this deadly shooting, and it wasn't easy.

"It became convoluted," a Houston police officer said.

The beginning takes us to the King's Row apartment complex on Barberry where police say one woman was robbed at gunpoint by a group of men, her brother was shot. The victims hopped in the car with another woman and her young daughter to get away.

Under fire, they sped off. Three blocks away on Rockingham, neighbor Joe Theisman tried to help.

"They were screaming for help and by the time I got over there, she had pulled him out of the car. By then, I tried to help her and put a towel on the gun wound and I applied pressure," Theisman said.

Despite the efforts, the man in his 20s died on the street. The scene became a spectacle for hours. Police arrested two men at the complex and took the two female victims away for questioning; the toddler was finally taken away from the crime scene, finally away from the violence.

"That's what she was saying, 'Someone shot my brother, someone shot my brother.' She said, 'They killed my brother,'" Theisman said.

While they were investigating this shooting, authorities responded to several other unrelated shootings in the area.
