For weeks, there was a lot of speculation about what Miley Cyrus would do at the American Music Awards.

Her choice of performance was to sing in front of a lip-synching kitten. Cyrus performed "Wrecking Ball" in front of a kitten that mouthed the words with her, started crying, and at the end stuck out its tongue.

Lady Gaga and R. Kelly performed "Do What U Want" by acting out a scenario in which he was the president and she was a secretary he was having an affair with and later ignoring. The members of Imagine Dragons switched off playing enormous drums and regular drum kits. Katy Perry opened the show with a dazzling tribute to Japan.

Jennifer Lopez pulled off an energetic tribute to Celia Cruz that involved two wardrobe changes and all her dancers falling to the floor at the end.
