Suspect escapes when deputy crashes during chase north of downtown Houston; officers later arrest him at home

HOUSTON

The chase started on the Hardy Toll Road and ended when the officer crashed at Hardy and Harrington.

According to officials, it all started when the deputy tried to pull over a driver who was allegedly traveling 62 mph in a 35-mph zone. The deputy started chasing the driver and sent out the license plate number.

The suspect escaped when the deputy crashed, but other officers used the license plate registration to find his address and arrest him. He now faces multiple charges.

"We went to his residence and apprehended him," Pct. 1 Lt. Mike Scott said. "He is a possible DWI. Right now, we have him arrested for felony evading."

The deputy was taken to the hospital with minor injuries to his leg and arm.
