Fall weather means it's time to start planting vegetables, and some Houstonians are setting up gardens with help from the city.

Neighbors in Sunnyside joined Mayor Annise Parker and other city leaders Saturday in planting a community garden on Brinkley.

It's the first garden under a new program called Urban Grows.

The goal of the program is to promote healthy lifestyles in neighborhoods that lack access to fresh food.

The gardens will be built on vacant lots on city of Houston property. The city hopes the gardens will help transform the land into green spaces.
