The Coast Guard was called around 9pm after the 42-year-old woman fell off the ferry between Bolivar Peninsula and Galveston Island. A helicopter crew later spotted the woman's body floating about 1,500 feet west from where she fell.
A boat crew picked up the woman and performed CPR on the way to the University of Texas Medical Branch Galveston were she was pronounced dead.
"On behalf of everyone involved, our heartfelt condolences go out to the lady's family and friends," said Petty Officer 2nd Class John Schroeder, a duty watchstander at Sector Houston-Galveston.
