Shuttle driver accused of stealing from luggage

HOUSTON

Joe Don Phillips, 45, is charged with theft. According to court documents, a woman took a Parking Spot shuttle bus driven by Phillips from Bush Intercontinental Airport to the parking lot on September 17. She says Phillips helped load her luggage into her car, and when she arrived home, she says she realized one of her bags was missing.

The woman says she contacted Parking Spot who told her that her bag was found by Phillips and turned into lost and found. Court documents state the woman retrieved her bag and found her jewelry bag containing more than $30,000 in jewelry was missing.

Investigators say they discovered Phillips had pawned some jewelry the day after the theft occurred. Phillips was interviewed by investigators who say that Phillips admitted taking the jewelry and sold some of it at various pawn shops. Police say they have recovered $24,000 worth of the jewelry.

Phillips is in custody and his bond has been set at $5,000.
