According to Liberty County investigators, McComb has an extensive and lengthy criminal history, including numerous assault and drug-related charges. They say McComb is a person of interest in burglaries in which several firearms were stolen.
As deputies approached McComb's home on July 6, they noticed him leaving in a white van. They tried to stop him, but he sped away.
Officials followed McComb to an area where firefighters were battling a forest fire. McComb left the roadway, but was unable to pass the fire scene. That's when deputies say he fled on foot into the burning wooded area, and they stopped pursuing.
Late Friday, deputies put together a plan of action which led to the combined efforts of the LCSO, Department of Public Safety and the U.S. Marshal's Service. With this combined effort, officers were able to locate and capture McComb.
McComb was charged with felony evading and a felon in possession of a firearm in Liberty County. He was also wanted in Montgomery County for an outstanding felony warrant.
No one was injured during the arrest operation.
Additional arrests were made as a result of this joint effort and investigation. The identities of the others arrested have not been released.
