A veteran Central Texas legislator has resigned because he has accepted a new job and is moving from the district.

Texas House member Fred Brown's resignation is effective Thursday.

The Republican from Bryan has spent more than a dozen years in the Legislature. Brown made his announcement Wednesday, the same day that the House ended the first special session of the 82nd Legislature.

Brown says he plans to run a car dealership in Temple, which is outside District 14.

Gov. Rick Perry will set a date for a special election to replace Brown.
