Siblings shot and killed by sister's ex-boyfriend identified, HCSO says

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- A brother and sister killed during a shooting over the weekend, allegedly by the sister's ex-boyfriend, have been identified, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said they responded to the shooting in the 200 block of W. Canino Road on Sunday morning and found 18-year-old Karen Rivera and her brother, 29-year-old Alberto Sidonio, lying in the driveway of a trailer park with multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators said the suspected gunman, Angel Javier Rodriguez, is also the father of Rivera's 2-year-old child.

The sheriff's office said the argument started when Rodriguez came to pick up their child without a car seat. When another family member came to pick up the child instead, authorities said, Rodriguez ambushed Riveria and shot her mulriple times. Sidonio came outside to try saving his sister, but was shot as well, HSCO said.

Investigators said Rodriguez fled the scene after the shooting and was arrested without incident on Will Clayton Parkway, about 20 minutes from the crime scene.

Deputies said they believe the suspect fired at several other people at the scene, but no one else was struck.

The victims' mother was also targeted during the shooting, authorities said, but she was not injured.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said that Rodriguez was charged with capital murder and booked into the Harris County Jail. If convicted, a capital murder conviction carries a sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, or the death penalty if prosecutors pursue it and the legal requirements are met.
