The pilot reported encountering turbulence yesterday morning. The wreckage was found a couple of hours later in a brushy area on a ranch several miles northwest of Benavides.
The Federal Aviation Administration says the twin-turboprop Beechcraft King Air was flying from Uvalde to Leesburg, Fla., when it began to lose altitude.
A line of thunderstorms had moved across south Texas ahead of a cold front, dropping heavy rain.
The plane's tail number indicated that it was registered to Mazak Properties Inc. of Webster, Fla.
A call to the home of company president Paul Mazak II in Bushnell, Fla. was answered by a woman who identified herself as his wife -- then she declined comment.
