New leads in grisly Crystal Beach killing

Galveston County Sheriff's Department investigators have new leads in the grisly murder of a woman on Crystal Beach back in 2007. A tip led investigators to several men with connections, they say, to 28-year-old Bridgette Lynn Gearen's death. None of the men are from the area, but investigators know they were in the Crystal Beach area at the time of Gearen was killed.

Gearen was on a weekend outing in Crystal Beach with several friends. Moments before midnight on July 14th, 2007, she was going to join others for a ride along the beach and walked away from her cabin toward Crystal Beach Road.

Within moments her friends followed, thinking she had joined others on the beach. They didn't realize what truly happened until her partially clothed body was found early the next morning by campers on the beach near Monkhouse Road, a few hundred yards west of her beach cabin.

Detectives say her death was extremely violent, so violent that veteran investigators characterized her murder as one of the most horrific in their memories.

Anyone with additional information in this case is urged to contact the Galveston County Sheriff's Office at 409-766-2322.

Deputies still have much work to do in pursuing the latest lead. No arrests have been made.
