Court sides with city in Houston districts debate

HOUSTON A lawsuit filed by citizens demanded the city add two council seats to raise the total to 16. The suit pointed to a 1979 city charter amendment that requires the city to add those seats when Houston's population reached 2.1 million.

The city acknowledges the population has reached that mark, but the court agreed with the city's argument to wait for official census numbers released in April of 2011 before redrawing districts.
