Houston area election results

HOUSTON With all precincts reporting from yesterday's election, Edward Gonzalez is in the lead with 31 percent of the vote. Maverick Welsh is second with 27 percent. Voters had nine candidates to choose from in the race. The council seat had been held by current Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia. Just over 4,000 people voted, which is less than a five percent turnout.

Outside of Houston, there were several other races for city council positions and mayor. It looks like Baytown's new mayor will be Stephen Don Carlos. The unofficial results gave him 74 percent of the vote. The closest to him was David Lee with 17 percent.

In Sugar Land, it looks like Don Smithers is going to take the District 1 spot. He had 63 percent to George Kakkanatt's 38 percent.

In La Marque, the race for mayor is tight. Geraldine Sam was the leading vote getter with 37 percent, followed by James Osteen and Bill Charbonneau.
