Soldier charged in fellow soldier's death

KILLEEN, TX Fort Hood Criminal Investigations Division officials turned over John Anthony Valdez, 24, to the Killeen Police Department on Thursday night, authorities said. Earlier that day, an arrest warrant was issued for him after the Bell County District Attorney's Office charged him with last month's murder of Sgt. Ryan Michael Sullivan, police said.

Sullivan was found by police Oct. 14 after officials from his unit were worried when he did not show up for physical training. A preliminary autopsy report indicated that Sullivan died of "multiple sharp-force injuries," the Killeen Daily Herald reported.

Valdez was jailed in Bell County on $1 million bond Friday, a jail spokesman said. His attorney did not immediately return a call Friday.
