Two teens, man killed in head-on collision

WICHITA FALLS, TX Electra High School students Courtney Mengwasser, 16, and Adreanna Norrid, 18, were killed Tuesday night near Electra when the car they were riding in collided with a pickup truck traveling in their lane, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Their driver, fellow Electra student Alyssa Willeford, 18, was critically injured and taken to a hospital in nearby Wichita Falls, authorities said.

The other driver, Michael Nason, 40, of Electra was killed in the crash, according to DPS. His passenger, Monte Grounds, 41, of Bowlegs, Okla., was taken to a Wichita Falls hospital with minor injuries.

Willeford had just finished band practice and had picked up her friends at the restaurant where they worked to give them a ride home when the accident occurred, said Mona Lecolst, whose child attends Electra High.

The closeknit school has only 150 students, who were already upset about losing several students and graduates in recent months to car accidents or cancer, officials said. Counselors were brought in to help them deal with their grief.

"They were girls everybody liked and liked being around," said Electra Superintendent Gary Knightingale.
